Epidemiological Research Group in Stroke from Primary Care
This group comprises primary health care professionals from Terres de l'Ebre with an interest in the study of stroke from 2006, when the Stroke Code was implemented in this region. They collaborate with specialists in Cardiology and Neurology of the hospital Verge de la Cinta. Up to 2016, the research areas of this group were included in the PreCarTe Group: Cardiovascular Prevention Terres de l'Ebre, accredited by the Primary Care Research Institute IDIAP Jordi Gol (2012-2015) and recertified by the AGAUR, Generalitat de Catalunya SGR 2014-2016 (Agency for the Management of University and Research Grants, Agency for the Management of University and Research Grants, File 2017 SGR 00606 G60954104). This group participates in Doctorate and Master programs of Universities and Primay Care UUDD Terres de l'Ebre, Research Institutes, European Scientific Societies, Citizen Associations as well shared the implementation of the Atrial Fibrillation Health Care Route in Catalonia, Harmonization of Pharmacotherapeutics Area of Medicine under the auspices of the Catalan Health Service Department (CatSalut); ICS Innovation Commission/Innobics Platform; and co-leading and co-authoring research projects as Atrial Fibrillation in Catalonia (AFRICAT); the international, prospective, multicentre RIVER Registry (TRI08890), led by the Thrombosis Research Institute (London) to observe the management and short and long term results of non valvular atrial fibrillation treated with Rivaroxaban; and EU Horizon (AFFECT-EU, AF screening and dementia) as member of AF-screen International Collaboration). The aim of this collaborative group is to promote discussion and research about screening for unknown or under-treated atrial fibrillation as a way to reduce stroke and death. We will provide advocacy for implementation of AF screening programs, tailored to the medical systems of individual countries. Our efforts will include the role of AF detection technologies, implementation in health systems for AF screening, and the role of oral anticoagulant therapy to prevent stroke in individuals found to have previously unknown AF.
