Research Group on Health Economics in Primary Care

Ours is a multidisciplinary group made up of 14 researchers, four family doctors (two of them doctors and one doctoral student), two Primary Care (PC) nurses, a primary care paediatrician, three doctors in Psychology, three doctors in Pharmacy and a doctor in Psychiatry. They are researchers from different fields and specialties who participate in projects related to the field of mental health (epidemiology, drug consumption, analysis of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of treatments, evaluation of effectiveness and therapeutic cost-effectiveness evaluated both quantitatively and qualitatively), evaluation of new interventions to address chronic pain, improvement in the quality of life of patients with mental disorders and chronic diseases such as fibromyalgia and chronic pain and both quantitative and qualitative evaluation of adherence to drugs prescribed by PC.

This last line is one of the most active in recent years, with studies focused on non-initiation and others focused on the consumption of psychotropic drugs (antipsychotics, benzodiazepines).

In recent years, the group has become increasingly specialized in the economic evaluation of health in PC, making this line of research the transversal axis of almost all the projects we lead or in which we participate.

In order to comprehensively understand the management of pathologies in primary care and the efficiency of treatments, as well as to identify facilitators and barriers, the group complements the use of clinical trials and economic evaluations with other designs, such as qualitative research, systematic reviews, and epidemiological studies based on large databases,  such as SIDIAP or PADRIS, all within the framework of research in the field of primary care.
