GREMPAL
Primary Care Research Group in Common Disorders of the Musculoskeletal System
The Primary Care Research Group in Common Disorders of the Musculoskeletal System (GREMPAL-group consolidated since 2017) is currently led by Daniel Martínez Laguna and its members are Carlen Reyes, Meritxell Aivar Blanch, Cristina Carbonell Abella, Maria Antònia Pou and César Diaz Torné. The already established research lines of the group are the epidemiology of osteoporosis and ostheoarthrosis, the fragility fractures and the pharmaco-epidemiology of the most commonly used treatments in primary care. In addition, a new research line in gout (Maria Antonia Pou) and rheumatoid arthritis (César Diaz Torné) has been recently added. The GREMPAL collaborates with national and international research groups. Nationally, from 2021, with the Real-World Epidemiology group (IDIAP Jordi gol) through the joint hiring of Carlen Reyes as a post-doctoral researcher and in 2023 with the Medicines Unit (IDIAP Jordi Gol) through a project (association of serum vitamin D and fractures) submitted to the health research funds of the Carlos III Institute. Internationally, the GREMPAL has maintained its already existing collaboration with the University of Oxford through the project Epidemiology and Burden of Imminent Subsequent Fractures in postmenopausal women (2023-2024) and the post-authorizaton studies of the prescription drugs romosozumab (2020-2026) and galcanezumab (2019-2025). The incorporation of César Diaz Torné to the group will open the door to future collaborations with the rheumatology unit of the Sant Pau hospital and together with Maria Antònia Pou they have created links with the Rheumatology department of the University of Auckland (New Zealand) where they have spent 3 months (2023) as visiting investigadors.
