2025: a year to consolidate IDIAPJGol’s transformation
2025 has been a particularly significant year for IDIAPJGol. On the one hand, we have continued to make progress in the growth and consolidation of our research activity. On the other, we have brought the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan to an end, a plan that has marked an important period of transformation for the Institute and allows us today to take stock of the progress we have made.
A growing institution
Over these five years, IDIAPJGol has grown and strengthened its capabilities. 90% of the actions set out in the Strategic Plan have been implemented, the number of people employed by the Institute has increased from 58 to 138, and active projects have grown by almost 60%. Funding obtained for new projects has more than doubled, while our research support, innovation and internationalisation structures have also been strengthened. This process has gone hand in hand with a stronger presence across the territory and closer partnerships with other institutions and stakeholders in the fields of research and primary care.
The 2025 figures reflect this evolution. IDIAPJGol now has 43 research groups and 1,990 researchers working on 968 active projects. During the year, 59 new competitive projects and 189 non-competitive projects were launched, with funding of more than €5.6 million. The international dimension of our activity also continues to grow, with 52 European projects, while our scientific output reached 571 publications and an accumulated impact factor of 2,612.31 points. In addition, industry-sponsored research activity included 10 clinical trials and 6 observational studies.
Behind the figures, people
But behind these figures are, above all, people. Primary care professionals who conduct research, groups that generate knowledge, teams that support research, and structures that make it possible for this knowledge to move forward. The Institute's growth over these years has also been the result of its ability to attract talent, create new opportunities and build an increasingly broad and diverse research community.
Future challenges
2025 has also given us an opportunity to reflect on how we want to approach this new stage. In this context, the IDIAPJGol retreat held in November highlighted some of the challenges we will need to address in the coming years, including generational renewal within our research groups. Ensuring the continuity of research lines, facilitating the incorporation of new generations of researchers, and passing on accumulated knowledge and experience will be essential to ensuring the Institute's sustainable growth.
The 2021-2025 Strategic Plan has enabled us to grow, but it has also helped us lay the foundations for addressing new challenges. We must now consolidate this growth, continue to improve the quality and excellence of our research, and ensure that the knowledge we generate has an increasingly greater impact on clinical practice and population health.
The beginning of a new stage
The conclusion of the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan is therefore not an endpoint, but rather the end of one stage and the beginning of another. The process of developing the new 2026-2030 Strategic Plan will allow us, with the participation of the entire IDIAPJGol community, to define the Institute's main objectives for the coming years and how we want to continue contributing to making primary care a space for knowledge, innovation and health improvement.
I would like to conclude by thanking everyone who is part of IDIAPJGol for their commitment and their work. The results achieved this year are the outcome of a collective effort. Researchers, professionals from the research support units, management and administrative teams, and everyone who contributes to the Institute's day-to-day work share responsibility for making this transformation possible.
